ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS One of the team's offseason priorities is to add some pop to the lineup. Brewers 1B Richie Sexson is at the top of Arizona's wish list. Sexson would be a big upgrade and a true No. 4 hitter. It would be a tricky acquisition, though--the team would have to clear some salary to take on Sexson's $8.6 million contract for 2004. 40-MAN ROSTER WATCH: LHP Mike Gosling underwent surgery on his left elbow last season but should be ready to go in 2004. Gosling throws a fastball, slider and changeup and has begun working on a cutter. Some compare him to Yankees LHP Andy Pettitte.--Steve Gilbert

ATLANTA BRAVES The team is ready to make Mark DeRosa its starting third baseman. DeRosa might not be a 20-homer threat, but he does have a good plate presence and could hit close to .300. Defensively, the team will benefit from the athleticism that enabled DeRosa to be the University of Pennsylvania's starting quarterback. 40-MAN ROSTER WATCH: RHP Bubba Nelson could win a rotation spot during spring training. Nelson, 22, has four pitches--a fastball, curve, slider and changeup--that his outstanding command enables him to use in almost any situation. His style is more finesse than power.--Mark Bowman

CHICAGO COBS RHP Joe Borowski is one of the league's most reliable closers. But without a defining out pitch, Borowski could end up as part of a solid setup crew with RHP Kyle Farnsworth and LHP Mike Remlinger. Borowski, who had 33 saves in 2003, could be an innings eater with his ability to mix up pitches and keep opponents off-balance in the seventh and eighth innings. That would allow the Cubs to search for an established free-agent closer. 40-MAN ROSTER WATCH: RHP Angel Guzman was impressive as a non-roster invitee to spring training last season. He throws hard and features a sharp-breaking curve. Guzman is one or two years away from joining the team's pitching staff.--Scott Merkin
